A middle class holiday party seemed to be going relatively normally for a while, until Kevin Hart’s Gene didn’t respond quickly enough to a request from his wife Crystal (Leslie Jones) for a kiss under the mistletoe.
It had seemed exactly like your run-of-the-mill gathering of friends up until that point, with a few warning signs. Specifically, the restrictions Crystal placed on Gene as soon as they walked in the door, not allowing him to drink alcohol and making him drink Dr. Pepper through a wacky child’s straw. But, hey, that’s the middle class life, right?
It seemed so until the incident under the mistletoe. Crystal demanded Gene, who was sitting on the couch, come over and kiss her as she stood under the mistletoe, but he was too slow getting up. She decided to punish him, by demanding he kiss the life-sized stuffed bear next to the Christmas tree instead. “A French kiss, and I wanna see a lot of tongue.” You can watch the full skit embedded above.
Gene, who Hart played with a comically desperate accent, reluctantly acquiesced, even as his friends (Aidy Bryant, Kenan Thompson, Beck Bennett and Cecily Strong) assured him that it would be totally okay if he didn’t do that in the middle of the party. But Gene soldiered on even so.
The situation escalated rather dramatically from there, with Gene undressing the giant teddy bear in preparation for, well — you can probably guess where this is going. Fortunately, the situation did not reach its natural conclusion, as Crystal decided that she and Gene and the teddy bear were going to go home together. And unfortunate situation still for those remaining at the party since the bear was actually supposed to be a gift. But that’s Christmas for you.
Kevin Hart, in his hosting duties, was all over “SNL” this week, with notable turns as Shaq on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” and as an office worker who would rather pee his pants during a meeting than admit he needed to leave the meeting to use the bathroom.
