‘SNL’ Does ‘Avengers’ vs ‘Game of Thrones’ Episode of ‘Family Feud’ (Video)

“SNL” tried to tap into the two biggest pop culture phenomena on Earth instead of covering any topical political news

After two weeks off, “SNL” marked its return this week by once again avoiding politics all together, opting instead to go for a bit focusing on the two biggest things in pop culture at the moment — “Game of Thrones” vs. “Avengers: Endgame.”

“SNL” briefly nodded to recent political happenings with a fakeout open, with a C-SPAN narrator saying they were going to show William Barr’s testimony before Congress, but he didn’t show up so they’re going to show an episode of “Family Feud” instead.

The theme of this “Family Feud” was, as mentioned above, the characters from “Game of Thrones” vs the Avengers.

“I am Steve of House Mustache,” said Kenan Thompson as as host Steve Harvey. “Today we got ‘Avengers’ versus ‘Game of Thrones.’ All right. Let’s start with the Avengers because this show is just like their movies. We’re gonna open with 45 minutes of introductions.”

And so they did — the bulk of the sketch did revolve around the introductions, with each character making some quipping reference to their characters and Kenan’s Steve Harvey responding with a joke.

The highlight of these introductions, by far, came from Leslie Jones as Groot, who simply said “Bitch I’m Groot,” a new variation on Groot’s “I am Groot” line that is the only thing he says in the movies.

When it came time for the “Game of Thrones” character introductions, Kenan’s Steve Harvey made a joke about the dimness of the most recent episode.

“I got to be honest, I didn’t see the last episode,” he said. “I mean, I watched it but I couldn’t see it. Yeah, you know it’s dark when you can’t even see the white people.”

The other highlight of the sketch, aside from Leslie Jones as Groot, was “SNL” regular Beck Bennett in full makeup as Thanos.

You can watch the full sketch in the video embedded at the top of this post.
