‘Sister Wives’ Dad Kody Brown Gives Daughter Tips on Polygamous Marriage (Exclusive Video)

Meri’s daughter, Mariah, discusses her calling to the pluralist lifestyle on Sunday’s episode of the TLC reality series

Kody Brown wants to make sure that his oldest daughter enters pluralist marriage with open eyes on Sunday’s new episode of TLC’s “Sister Wives.”

In TheWrap’s exclusive video, the Brown family’s eldest daughter, Mariah, sits with mom, Meri, and her father to discuss her calling to marry into a polygamous lifestyle as they did.

Her parents, though, want to make sure that she doesn’t rush into any decisions and really gets to know the man before marrying him.

“To be fair, be smart about who you marry,” Kody advises, “because you want to be glad you did 20 years from now.”

And when she says that she wouldn’t make her choice of families on the number of wife she is, throwing out first, third or fifth, Kody gets surprisingly protective.

“Fifth? I need to talk to you about multiplying wives,” he interjects.

Sunday’s episode continues the four-day visit from graduate anthropology students who are studying the family.

It’s also supposed to be the first week in which the family will begin explaining recent news that Kody has divorced first wife, Meri, to marry fourth wife, Robyn. The family has been tight-lipped about the decision, only releasing a statement saying they’ve “chosen to legally restructure” their family.

Legally, Kody can be married to only one person. There has been speculation that the moves were made to strengthen custody, tax and other legal issues regarding Robyn’s three children from a previous marriage, who Kody has accepted as his own. The next few episodes promise to clear all that up.

“Sister Wives” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on TLC.
