“Simon’s Cat,” the second most popular animation channel on YouTube in terms of subscribers, has joined the Channel Frederator Network.
Frederator will distribute the channel and sell advertising against it, adding to a network whose 130 channels generate more than 30 million views a month.
In 2008, Simon Tofield created “Cat”, an animated cartoon about a house cat and his owner. The channel is a study in quality over quantity; only a few new videos are uploaded each month. However, the channel has a devoted following of more than 2.75 million subscribers – with videos generating more than 470 million views. “We are honored to work with the phenomenal talents behind Simon’s Cat, who are truly proof of the fact that the internet has ushered in a new golden age of animation,” Fred Seibert, founder of Frederator Studios, said in a statement. “We are glad to help introduce new audiences to ‘Simon’s Cat’ and to introduce the show, as well, to the existing viewers in the Channel Frederator Network.”
Frederator, which has produced TV series for Nickelodeon (“The Fairly OddParents”) and Cartoon Network (“Adventure Time”), launched the Frederator Network to extend their success on television into the digital space. Frederator is a premiere network of animated channels that also includes Cartoon Hangover, which has more than one million subscribers, and FilmCow, which is just shy of one million.
