Simon Cowell,  the show's executive producer and one of its judges, announced that Kardashian is an option while appearing with new judge Britney Spears on
"The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

"It could be a Kardashian. I think that would work," Cowell told DeGeneres (who briefly served as a judge on Cowell's former show, "American Idol." "[W]e have to find people who have a great chemistry, but Khloe is definitely up there in running."

Should Kardashian be chosen, "The X Factor" will add to an already busy slate for the reality TV star that includes "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and "Khloe and Lamar." (Kardashian is married to NBA player Lamar Odom.)

The original host for the American version of "The X Factor," British TV presenter Steve Jones, was canned earlier this year after the show wrapped its first season on Fox. Jones' ouster came as part of a major house-cleaning that also saw judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul removed. (They were replaced by Spears and former Disney starlet Demi Lovato.)

Cowell has said that he'd like to have two hosts on the second season of "The X Factor," ideally one male and one female.

During the interview, Cowell also discussed NBC's recent decision to expand the season premiere of its rival singing show, "The Voice," to a third night, in direct competition with the "X Factor" season 2 premiere on Wednesday.

"My gut feeling is that it's going to backfire on them," Cowell opined.
