Sigur Rós drummer Orri Páll Dýrason has quit the band after he was accused of sexual assault last week.
“In the wake of the extremely serious and personal allegations made against him in recent days, we have today accepted the resignation of our bandmate Orri Páll Dýrason to allow him to deal with this privately,” the Icelandic post-punk band said on its Facebook page on Monday.
Los Angeles-based artist Meagan Boyd said on Instagram last week Dýrason sexually assaulted her in 2013 after meeting at a club. “I woke up with the feeling of being penetrated without my consent during a deep slumber.”
Boyd has since taken her Instagram post down. She said she decided to speak up after Christine Blasey Ford testified last Thursday, accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of attempting to rape her while in high school 36 years ago.
A representative for Sigur Rós did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Dýrason denied Boyd’s accusations in a now-deleted followup post she shared on Instagram of an email exchange between them. “I cannot understand why you would want to publicly accuse me of something I did not do,” Dýrason said, according to Pitchfork. “I am so sorry you are going through all this. But my experience from that night is completely different from yours.”
