Showtime released a teaser trailer for its new comedy series “Happyish” on Monday.
Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Steve Coogan, Kathryn Hahn and Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee Bradley Whitford star in the new half-hour comedy series.
“Happyish,” in which Philip Seymour Hoffman was intended to star before his death in February 2014, features Coogan as Thom Payne, a 44-year-old man whose world is thrown into disarray when his 25-year-old “wunderkind” boss arrives, saying things like “digital,” “social” and “viral.” The sudden change throws Thom for a loop and sends him on a soul-searching quest to discover if he is, indeed, truly happy.
In the 43-second teaser released on Monday, Coogan discusses a medication dilemma with with his wife, Lee, played by Hahn. “I am worried that the Viagra will interfere with the Prozac. That is life, I am either soft and happy or miserable and hard,” he said.
“Happyish” was created, written and executive produced by author and regular “This American Life” contributor Shalom Auslander. Emmy Award nominee Ken Kwapis (“He’s Just Not That Into You,” “A Walk In The Woods”) will executive produce and direct the pilot. Kwapis’ producing partner Alexandra Beattie will serve as co-executive producer, under their In Cahoots banner.
The series is currently in production in New York and features guest stars Emmy and Tony Award winner Ellen Barkin, Emmy Award winner Carrie Preston, Molly Price and Andre Royo.
“Happyish” premieres on Sunday, April 26th at 9:30 p.m. on Showtime.
