Showtime Picks Up Final Season of ‘Call Girl’

Cable network orders up eight episodes of raunchy escort comedy

Showtime picked up an eight-episode fourth season of the comedy series "Secret Diary of a Call Girl." The new season will be the final one for the show, the network announced on Friday.

"Call Girl" is the story of a high-priced London, um, call girl who struggles to balance her personal and professional relationships, based on an 2005 autobiographical tale by the pseudonymous blogger Belle de Jour.

In November 2009, research scientist Dr. Brooke Magnanti came out as Belle de Jour. Magnanti said she worked as an escort in 2003 to support herself while completing a PhD program.

On "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," the role of Belle is played by Billie Piper. The show is produced for Showtime by A.R.G., ITV Productions, Silver Apples Media and Tiger Aspect Productions.
