The overwhelming success of “Sharknado” was a shock to everyone when the made-for-TV disaster film catapulted onto screens in 2013, but by the third go around we all knew the latest creation would have a monster impact.
Trending faster than Sunday’s real-life shark attack on pro-surfer Mike Fanning, “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!” quickly sparked a flood of tweets when it premiered on Syfy Wednesday night, ranging from confusion and mockery over the ridiculousness, to sheer delight. After all, if the cast and creators of the threequel don’t take it seriously, why should we?
Featuring buzzing chainsaws, sharks eating D-listers and famous novelists, action scenes divorced from the laws of physics and product placement galore, the action film thrusts Ian Ziering into a Sharknado sucking thousands of sharks out of the Potomac while on his way to accept an award from the President of the United States, played by “Shark Tank” creator Mark Cuban with Ann Coulter as VP.
The spectacular spoof also stars Tara Reid, Cassie Scerbo, David Hasselhoff and Bo Derek, with guest appearances by Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Rick Fox, Kyle Richards, ESPN “Sportsnation” host Michelle Beadle, Lou Ferrigno, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales and Al Roker from”Today,” Frankie Muniz (who had one of the most brutal death scenes of the night) and George R.R. Martin, who got payback for all those grisly “Game of Thrones” deaths.
Fear not, “Sharknado 4” is already in the works as Syfy gave Twitter follows the chance to decide if Reid’s character April lives or dies.
“Her fate will be revealed in ‘Sharknado 4’ … because we’re not done yet!” the network announced.
