After recovering from a busy weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, “Shadowhunters” actress Katherine McNamara spoke with TheWrap about the upcoming third season of the iconic Freeform fantasy series — and the possibility of a musical episode!
Many “Shadowhunters” fans have expressed their fondness for the idea of hearing McNamara’s character, Clary Fray, sing a tune while slinging her sword. McNamara herself said that showrunners “keep joking about a musical episode.” Also, her co-star, Alberto Rosende, actually did sing in Season 2. Though perhaps likely, McNamara said, “anything is possible.”
Another topic that came up was how “Shadowhunters” found success when the 2013 film, “The Mortal Instruments,” (both based on the book series by Cassandra Clare) fell flat. McNamara believes film was “not the right medium through which to tell this story.”
“There’s so many characters, and there’s so much going on in this story. There just simply isn’t enough time to do so in a film setting,” she said. “With TV, we have the advantage of spending 13 or even 20 hours on something that they [filmmakers] only had an hour and a half or so to do.”
