Seth Meyers couldn’t contain his glee — or his mockery — on Wednesday night, after it was revealed in Maggie Haberman’s forthcoming book that Trump once “loudly complained” about “the odor” that followed Rudy Giuliani out of the bathroom. In fact, the late night host dedicated most of his “A Closer Look” segment to it.
According to Haberman’s book, while the twice-impeached former president was aboard one of his planes with Giuliani, Trump made it a point to “loudly complain” about the smell after Giuliani had used one of the planes bathrooms, “so that other aides could hear.” Per Haberman’s reporting, Trump yelled “Rudy! That’s f—ing disgusting!”
Meyers joked that this particular revelation from Haberman’s book is “a story of immense significance to the future of our nation” and “one of those shocking stories that you also definitely could have predicted.” But as goofy as it was, Meyers wasn’t going to miss his opportunity.
“So I’m not surprised Rudy makes bad smells, but I am surprised it’s so bad that Trump complained about it,” Meyers said. “I mean, all Trump consumes are Big Macs and Diet Cokes. He probably has one bowel movement a week that looks like the scene from ‘Jurassic Park.’ And of course, even as he was running for the most important job in the world, that was what Trump was preoccupied with.”
That said, Meyers was surprised that this development is coming from a tell-all book, rather than from Giuliani directly. Meyers joked that Giuliani has confessed to so much on television — including that time he openly admitted that he asked Ukraine to look into Joe Biden — that this definitely should’ve come up.
Of course, this story did provide some clarity, at least for Meyers, on why Trump was always talking about people having to flush their toilets “10 times, 15 times.”
“Now, in the past when I’ve heard that, my reaction has been: even for Donald Trump, that seems like a lot of flushes. But now I know, there was a second pooper!” Meyers exclaimed. “Also, I want to emphasize that according to the book, this happened in 2016. And Rudy still went to work for Trump for six more years. I don’t know about you guys, but if my boss made it a point to loudly complain about how bad the bathroom smelled after I used it, so that everyone else could hear, my response would not be ‘I am willing to go to jail for this man.’”
Meyers had plenty more where that came from, and you can watch them all in the full segment above.
