‘Selfie’ Given an ‘In Memoriam’ Segment at the 2014 Webby Awards (Video)

Awards ceremony, hosted by Patton Oswalt, says goodbye with some of the worst selfie ideas seen in recent years

In the same week that “selfie” has earned a spot in Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, it appears that it may have died. The Webby Awards put together an “In Memoriam” video, spotlighting some of the selfies that may have led to its demise.

But for every worthy selfie that passes, there are some adorable ones that will be missed as well, like the #SlothSelfie. Let’s face it, animal selfies are always adorable.

Will this video truly mark the end of the word the Oxford Dictionary declared the word of 2013? Probably not, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to tone it down a bit. There are enough #Duckface and #ButtSelfie images on the Internet already.
