DC has offered up more than five minutes of footage of James Wan’s upcoming “Aquaman,” and it’s impressive.
The extended look showcases the color of the universe, the scope of the origin story and the humor of its star, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman.
“What could be greater than a king?” Momoa’s Aquaman asks in the trailer. “A hero,” Amber Heard’s Mera responds.
Heard’s character gets a big look in this latest trailer, leading Arthur on a journey through the Sahara desert to track down the lost city of Atlantis. In the extended sequence, they place a capsule on an ancient mechanism that reveals Atlantis’s trident and a prophecy that can either destroy or unite both the land and sea worlds.
There’s also a lengthy foot chase across rooftops between Arthur, Mera and some baddies in futuristic diving bell suits firing off lasers. The lengthy, single take shot following Mera is a good teaser of some of Wan’s impressive camera work.
“That was awesome,” Momoa says in the trailer.
The footage is close to what was presented to fans at Comic-Con back in July, including a big look at the film’s villain, Black Manta, as played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe and Djimon Hounsou also star in the film.
“Aquaman” opens on Dec. 21. Watch the new trailer above.
