ScreenSingapore Launches With Big-Name Speakers

Jon Landau, Jim Gianopulos and Sanford Panitch among high-profile participants at the 8-day festival

In latest sign how important the growing Asian market is to Hollywood, the inaugural ScreenSingapore festival kicked off this week with a series of big-name participants.

Producer Jon Landau, Fox Filmed Entertainment co-chair-CEO Jim Gianopulos and Fox International Productions president Sanford Panitch all signed on for the debut festival: Gianopulos is delivering Tuesday's keynote, and Landau is participating in a panel discussion on 3D film in Asia.

Panitch participating in a session on producing for a global marketplace.

On Wednesday, ScreenSingapore will host a gala premiere of "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and "Super 8," and on Saturday it will host the Asia Pacific premiere of "Larry Crowne."

The festival bills itself as an international cinema event "positioned between the Cannes Film Festival and the lucrative box office season of the Northern Hemisphere summer."

Universal Studios opened a theme park in Singapore this summer, and Lucasfilm is building a state-of-the-art facility there.

ScreenSingapore is backed by the Media Development Authority of Singapore, the Singapore Tourism Board and the Economic Development Board.
