The third season of the “Scream” reboot is finally happening — but it’s airing on VH1 instead of it’s original home at MTV. VH1 released the first look trailer today, and announced that the three-night event will kick off on July 8.
From executive producer Queen Latifah, the third season features Academy Award nominee Mary J. Blige, Grammy Award winner Tyga, CJ Wallace (“Notorious”), Keke Palmer (“Akeelah and the Bee”) and model and actress Paris Jackson.
The reboot cast new characters is the classic story of a group of teenagers being targeted by a serial killer in a ghoulish mask and black cloak, wielding a tell-tale bloody knife.
The first-look trailer finds the Scream killer up to his old tricks, stalking teenagers at their high school, in a corn field and later, in their homes. Jackson’s character opens the door, assuming it’s a kid in costume — “What are you supposed to be?”– right before the killer flashes a knife. You can watch the first-look trailer below.
The serialized anthology series first aired in 2015, and was based on the “Scream” film franchise that began in 1996, starring Drew Barrymore. The series has been on hiatus since its second season aired in 2016. It was created by Jay Beattie, Jill E. Blotevogel, and Dan Dworkin. The first two seasons starred Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus and John Karna.
