Scarlett Johansson is ready to lay a few hot licks on you — and we mean that in a musical sense, you sickos.
“Lost in Translation” actress Johansson has taken a further step in her sideline music career, unleashing the song “Candy” on the world.
The track comes courtesy of Johansson’s girl band The Singles, featuring Holly Miranda (“High Above the City”), Kendra Morris (“Banshee”), Julia Haltigan and Este Haim of the band Haim.
Johansson has exhibited her vocal chops before, notably on “Break Up,” her collaboration with Pete Yorn. But this time out she’s taking a different approach, hooking up with a handful of other ladies to deliver what she calls a “super-pop” experience.
The track features lyrics such as “Boy, you’ve got me craving sweets again” and “Sugar, sugar, sugar, pour it over me.”
If that sounds a little bit, well, saccharine, Johansson suggests that the puddle-deep lyrics are intentional.
“I would say it’s super-pop … the idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls,” Johansson said of the track. “I love Grimes. And I love the Bangles. And I love the Go-Go’s. I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.”
