Sarah Barnett has been promoted to president and general manager of the Sundance Channel.
Barnett, who was named executive vice president and general manager in 2009, is being promoted as Sundance prepares to roll out the network’s first wholly owned scripted drama, "Rectify," in April. The film "Top of the Lake," directed by Jane Campion and starring Elisabeth Moss and Holly Hunter, premieres next month.
Barnett started the network’s move into scripted original programming with "Carlos," which won the channel its first-ever Golden Globe. It has since aired the originals "Appropriate Adult" and "Restless."
Barnett has also guided the network’s original unscripted programming, including "Push Girls," which returns for its second season this spring. She also greenlit “The Writers’ Room,” produced in partnership with Entertainment Weekly.
Barnett joined Sundance Channel in late 2005 from BBC America, where she served as vice president of on-air.
