Salt-N-Pepa’s here, and they’re in effect.
Two members of the ’80s-’90s hip-hop trio Salt-N-Pepa face off on Thursday on Spike’s “Lip Sync Battle.” In a new preview of the episode, Sandra “Pepa” Denton does her best Katy Perry impression for a “Firework” performance, parading around the stage as she silently belts the lyrics and thrashes her arms.
In another sneak peak, Cheryl “Salt” James counters with her own convincing rendition of Run-D.M.C.’s “It’s Tricky.” Though she dances more than lip syncs in the clip, those stellar moves reveal it won’t be a landslide victory for either star.
James and Denton are both original members of Salt-N-Pepa, one of the first all-female rap ensembles. The group, which won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1995, scored its biggest hit in 1986 with “Push It.”
LL Cool J hosts “Lip Sync Battle.” Chrissy Teigen provides witty commentary. The show is produced by John Krasinski, Casey Patterson, Stephen Merchant, Jay Peterson and Rick Schwartz. Beth McCarthy-Miller (“Saturday Night Live”) fame directs.
