SAG, Redford Team for Acting Workshop

New Mexico event designed to help Native American and Hispanic actors

The Screen Actors Guild, in a partnership with Robert Redford Enterprises and the state of New Mexico, is holding a Diversity Acting Workshop on Friday in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as part of an extensive program to train and mentor artists in the Native American, Hispanic and African-American communities.

Participants in the workshop include actors Ed Harris, Anne Sward Hansen, Gary Farmer and David House, as well as director/producer Chris Eyre and playwright/actor Bruce King.

The event is presented by the Screen Actors Guild President’s National Task Force for American Indians, which SAG president Ken Howard said is designed “to support underrepresented and underemployed performers, helping them gain equal employment access and opportunities in the entertainment industry.” It is part of Milagro at Los Luceros, a collaboration between Redford, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and the New Mexico Film Office.

In the SAG press release announcing the collaboration, SAG board member and former American Indian College Fund chairman Anne Sward Hansen commended the task force “for taking the lead on this monumental partnership to expand employment opportunities for American Indian and Hispanic actors in New Mexico.”

The workshop takes place at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, and is by invitation only.
