Ryan Reynolds is taking a break.
The actor said Saturday that, fresh off finishing production on “Spirited,” it was time for “a little sabbatical from movie making.”
Reynolds said on his Instagram: “That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago. Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.”
We’d imagine his next gig will be his return as the Merc With a Mouth in Disney’s “Deadpool 3” (yes, Disney). The third movie will be the first under Marvel Studios and Disney’s leadership.
Reynolds stars in “Spirited” opposite Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer. The Apple TV+ holiday movie is a re-imaging of the classic Charles Dickens tale “A Christmas Carol.” Reynolds plays Ebeneezer Scrooge and Ferrell will play the Ghost of Christmas Present.
Reynolds has been busy. He just starred in Fox’s “Free Guy” and will next be seen in “Red Notice” alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.
“Red Notice” centers around the pursuit of the most wanted art thief in the world in which an Interpol-issued Red Notice is issued as a global alert to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted. But when a daring heist brings together the FBI’s top profiler (Johnson) and two rival criminals (Gadot, Reynolds), there’s no telling what will happen.
That movie will premiere on Netflix in November.
