Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool” sequel is on pace for a $150 million opening weekend, according to early tracking estimates.
That would mean it would surpass the opening weekend number of its predecessor, which launched in February 2016 to $132 domestically. It crushed the record for the biggest R-rated opening weekend, and at the time scored the biggest February opening weekend, until “Black Panther” took over.
David Leitch is directing the sequel, which sees Deadpool teaming up with other mutants to take on Cable, played by Josh Brolin.
Zazie Beets, Julian Dennison, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller and Brianna Hildebrand also star.
“Deadpool 2” will hit theaters on May 18. This weekend, Marvel fans will see the release of “Avengers: Infinity War,” which is set for a debut weekend in the $220 million-range or over.
Estimates for “Deadpool 2’s” opening weekend came out right before 20th Century Fox was set to take the stage in Las Vegas for the CinemaCon presentation.
