"Jackass" fans have turned to social media in the wake of Ryan Dunn’s death Monday morning, offering tribute counterbalanced by cynicism and finger wagging by his detractors.
For example, Tweeter @ReganAbingdonXX wrote, “I’m actually so sad Ryan is dead … he (was) such a legend and I watched Jackass all my life and I loved it!”
Jackass co-star Jason Weeman Acuna (@iamweeman) wrote, "RYAN DUNN — a super awesome memory was at the J RODY walston & the business show!!! I MISS YOU BUD!! You were always a happy kick-ass dude!!"
Away from Twitter, the walls of Dunn's Facebook fan page were also filled.
One fan wrote, “You left a good mark on the world, made lots of people happy, and have now found a place in many hearts. Your parents, family and friends should be proud of you and I am sure they are glad to have known you. You will be missed. R.I.P.”
Another user posted a link to a separate tribute site, offering a public, albeit underused guestbook to record condolences.
But there was also a dash of cynicism.
Tweeter, @sheepie91, wrote, “Are we still doing the fake surprise at someone from Jackass actually dying thing?”
The Westboro Baptist Church took the criticism of the dead to another level, releasing a flyer announcing their intention to protest Ryan Dunn’s funeral.
They write: “DRAB PERVERT HAWKED PORN-LEVEL FILTH (E.G., TOY CAR UP HIS RECTUM FOR ENTERTAINMENT) TO GET RICH OFF A PERVERSE GENERATION.”
