Magnolia Pictures and Participant Media have acquired “RBG,” a documentary about pioneering Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, in a worldwide deal.

“RBG” is a look at the historic career and widely unknown personal narrative of Ginsburg, the second woman ever confirmed to the bench. It features interviews with “former clients and colleagues, her close friend and NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg, and historic figures whose paths she has crossed, “including the son of her close friend and Supreme Court colleague Antonin Scalia,” an announcement said.

The film was directed Betsy West and Julie Cohen and produced by CNN Films, which will keep U.S. broadcast rights for the project. Theatrical and all other platforms will go to the indie distributor and Jeff Skoll’s socially-conscious media company.

Next year should be a big one for 84-year-old Ginsburg. Participant is also co-producing a feature film about her life with Focus Features, starring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer.

Cinetic Media made the deal on behalf of CNN. Dori Begley, John von Thaden and Sarah Hack negotiated for Magnolia, with Gabriel Brakin repping Participant. “RBG” is executive produced by Entelis and Courtney Sexton, vice president of CNN Films. The film’s editor is Carla Gutierrez.
