Russell Crowe Getting Set to Play Superman’s Dad in ‘Man of Steel’

“Gladiator” star is finishing negotiations to take on the role previously held by Marlon Brando

Russell Crowe is going to be a father again — at least on the big screen.

The "Gladiator" star is finishing negotiations to play Jor-El, the Kryptonian father of Superman, in the upcoming Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures superhero offering "Man of Steel," TheWrap has confirmed with an individual close to the project.

The role was famously filled by Marlon Brando in the 1978 film "Superman."

"Man of Steel" is being directed by "300" helmsman Zack Snyder for a 2012 release.

"The Tudors" star Henry Cavill will play the heroic title role; Amy Adams will be playing female reporter/love interest Lois Lane, while Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will portray Superman's adoptive Earth parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent.
