Russell Brand to Bring U.K.’s ‘RentaGhost’ Back to Life

The “Get Him to the Greek” star will executive produce the WB comedy

Russell Brand will executive produce a feature film based on the British comedy series "RentaGhost" that will be developed as a potential starring vehicle for the "Get Him to the Greek" actor, reports Deadline.

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the show and plans to adapt the show into a "Beetlejuice"-type movie.

Brand would play Fred Mumford, a recently deceased slacker who is determined to be more productive as a corpse in the afterlife. He teams up with a couple of other like-minded spirits to start a temp agency for the dead. Mumford and his ghoulish friends rent out ghosts to the living, until things fail to go according to plan.

Bob Block created the original series, which ran on BBC1 from 1976-1984.

BermanBraun's Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun will produce with Langley Park's Kevin McCormick, and the trio are currently searching for a writer to bring "RentaGhost" to life.

Brand will soon be seen opposite Helen Mirren in both Julie Taymor's "The Tempest" and Peter Baynham's "Arthur" remake, which was also produced by McCormick. He also plays the Easter Bunny in "Hop."

Brand and McCorcmick are represented by WME.
