The name on everybody’s lips is gonna’ be Rumer Willis.
Bruce Willis’ daughter is making her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in “Chicago” for an eight-week limited run. The musical will play at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City from Aug. 18 until Oct. 11.
Willis is the winner of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” Season 20. Her acting career began as a child starring opposite her mother Demi Moore in “Striptease” and “Now and Then.” Willis’ television credits include “Workaholics,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “Hawaii 5-0.” Her film credits include “House Bunny” and “Sorority Row.” She is also working on a debut album alongside producer Linda Perry.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, “Chicago” tells the story of Roxie Hart — a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her secret lover after he threatens to leave her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.
The Tony Award-winning musical currently stars Grammy Award winner Brandy Norwood as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Ivan Hernandez as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, “Chicago” is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking.
The musical was adapted for film and released in 2003. The movie, directed by Rob Marshall, starred Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones and won multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Zeta-Jones.
