Taye Diggs has been cast in a recurring role on “Rosewood,” Fox announced Monday.

The actor will play Dr. Mike Boyce, a Miami-based infectious disease specialist who also happens to be the best friend of Morris Chestnut’s titular Dr. Beaumont Rosewood. To Rosewood’s surprise, sparks fly between Boyce and Detective Villa when Boyce joins the team to assist on a case.

Diggs’ first episode is scheduled to air in November.

The actor recently wrapped up a Broadway run as the title character in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” He was featured in a recurring role last fall on CBS’ “The Good Wife.”

Diggs’ other TV credits include “Private Practice,” “Daybreak,” “Will & Grace,” “Ally McBeal” and “Kevin Hill.” In 2013 he starred in the feature film “The Best Man.”

“Rosewood” has been a relatively solid ratings performer airing at 8 p.m. on Wedneday nights ahead of “Empire.” Last week’s episode drew a 1.8 Nielsen rating among adults 18-49 in live-plus-same day viewing. Fox last week placed a script order for three new episodes of the drama in addition to the 13 episodes for which the network has already committed to production.
