Rose McGowan apologized to Iran and denounced the U.S. in a long Twitter rant Thursday night, soon after news broke that President Trump had authorized a drone strike that killed the country’s top general, Qassem Soleimani.
“Dear #Iran, The USA has disrespected your country, your flag, your people. 52% of us humbly apologize. We want peace with your nation. We are being held hostage by a terrorist regime. We do not know how to escape. Please do not kill us. #Soleimani,” McGowan said in the first of a series of tweets.
The “Charmed” actress, who was one of the first wave of women to speak out against Harvey Weinstein at the start of the #MeToo movement, has established her self as a vocal critic of Trump.
In her next tweet, she spoke directly to the president.
“Thanks a lot, d–khead @realDonaldTrump,” she said.
McGowan’s tweets were soon met with criticism from other users, who questioned why she, as a vocal supporter of women, would defend Iran and Soleimani. The actress responded with a barrage of more impassioned tweets.
“I do not side with Iran, but I most definitely do not side with the USA,” she said. “Of course #Soleimani was an evil evil man who did evil evil things. But that at this moment is not the f–king point. The United States is morally corrupt and acts illegally,” she continued. “It is only logical to appeal to Iran’s pride by apologizing. I’m taking one for the team.“
Daily Wire Journalist Jessica Fletcher, who identifies herself as a Texan and a Christian in her Twitter bio, tweeted at McGowan: “You think Iran gives two craps what some girl from Charmed says? You’re not taking one for the team. You’re betraying the ones killed by terrorists to defend your freedom.”
McGowan responded, “F–k your freedom and shove it up your #MAGA ass.” She told another user who urged her to delete her tweets to “Eat s–t.”
The actresses then veered to the subject of voting.
“I will never vote Republican. I want the Democrats to win because we are less likely to die. I am a conscientious objector to the USA, it’s policies, lies, corruption, nationalism, racism, and deep misogyny. It is our right and duty as citizens to dissent.”
Friday morning, she offered an explanation for Thursday night’s rant.
“Ok, so I freaked out because we may have any impending war,” she said. “Sometimes it’s okay to freak out on those in power. It’s our right. That is what so many Brave soldiers have fought for. That is democracy. I do not want any more American soldiers killed. That’s it.”
