Ronda Rousey‘s reboot of the Patrick Swayze classic “Road House” is still in good health despite the UFC star’s shocking defeat and subsequent injury during a fight Saturday in Australia.
With writer-director Nick Cassavetes at the helm, the MGM project “does not anticipate any delay,” an individual close to the film told TheWrap. Production is set for the second half of 2016.
Reps for Rousey and MGM did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.
Rousey was knocked out 59 seconds into round two of her Mixed Martial Arts showdown with fighter Holly Holm, when a kick to the side of the head sent her to the mat — and to the hospital for stitches in and around her mouth.
The never-before-defeated fighter and star of last summer’s “Entourage” missed a post-fight press conference sparking rumors of more serious injuries.
“I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine,” Rousey wrote on Instagram late Sunday. “As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back.”
Not everyone was terribly concerned with Rousey’s well being. Several hours after the match, Lady Gaga took to Instagram herself uploading a screen shot of the female fighters punching each other.
“That’s what you get for not touching gloves,” Gaga captioned the shot, referring to the boxing ritual where opponents tap gloves as symbol of sportsmanship.
Rousey has a major fandom in show business and in pop culture at large, praised for her outspokenness on gender roles in her sport and referenced by superstars like Beyonce in performances.
In the new film, Rousey will take on the role originated by Swayze as a tough bouncer who is hired to clean up one of America’s rowdiest bars and ends up tangling with the town bad guy.
