Ron Meyer, Universal Studios President and COO, will deliver the 2012 commencement speech for UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television, the school announced on Wednesday.
Meyer, co-founder and former president of CAA, will address the graduates, faculty, family and friends June 15 on the UCLA campus.
“Ron is a leader of extraordinary skill and vision,” dean Teri Schwartz said in a statement. “His industry insights, experiences and values should be of enormous inspiration to our graduating students. He is one of the most respected and distinguished executives in the entertainment industry and we feel so fortunate that he will be with us on this very special day.”
This year’s ceremony is dedicated to the school’s founding dean, legendary director and producer Gil Cates, who died last year.
Also being honored are Penelope Spheeris, a director and screenwriter, and Shirley Jo Finney, a director and actress. They will receive the Distinguished Alumni Awards. Spheeris’ directing credits include “Wayne’s World” and “The Little Rascals.” She also wrote for “Rosanne.”
“Our Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are groundbreaking artists whose outstanding career accomplishments are a tribute to the very best that is TFT,” Schwartz said.
