Roland Emmerich is set to receive a tribute at the upcoming ninth German Currents Festival of German Film, which will also feature a Q&A with the famed filmmaker and producer.
Emmerich (pictured above) is currently working on a sequel to his 1996 film, “Independence Day.” The tribute and Q&A take place Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles.
German Currents will have its official opening night red carpet event on Oct. 22, followed by the film “We are Young, We are Strong” — a Los Angeles Premiere — plus panel discussions with top German filmmakers. The event will also feature nightly screenings — including the US Premiere of “B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West Berlin 1979 – 1989” — and a free children’s morning screening of “The Pasta Detectives,” as well as a filmmaker brunch.
The festival is produced by the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles and the American Cinematheque in cooperation with the German Consulate General, the Austrian Consulate General and the Consulate General of Switzerland. It features support of German Films, Deutsche Welle (DW) and The Friends of Goethe. The event is presented by BMW.
German Currents takes place at L.A.’s Egyptian Theatre. For more information visit the festival’s Facebook page.
