Robin Roberts Moves Up ‘GMA’ Last Day Before Medical Leave

Today will be last day

Robin Roberts, who had planned to leave "Good Morning America" after Friday's show to begin an extended medical leave, will instead leave after today's show.

Robin Roberts said on the air Monday that Friday would be her last day before she went on leave. She has been diagnosed with the blood and bone-marrow disease myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS, and is preparing for a bone marrow transplant. She said she will check into the hospital on Tuesday.

Roberts is leaving a day earlier than planned to "fly home to Mississippi to be with her ailing mother, Lucimarian, and her family in the hurricane zone," according to ABC News.

Katie Couric, the women of "The View" and Diane Sawyer are all expected to contribute to "GMA" during her leave.

Roberts, 51, successfully battled breast cancer five years ago.
