In the first clip from Sony Pictures Classics’ “Truth,” Dan Rather (played by Robert Redford) receives a standing ovation before heading off to interview an Army General in a nearby hotel room.
“And in 1981, he became anchor of the CBS Evening News. He has now anchored more nightly news broadcasts than anyone else in U.S. history,” former CBS News president Andrew Heyward introduces Rather on stage. “Not bad for the son of a ditch digger from Wharton, Texas.”
“Truth” is a feature film based on “Truth and Duty” by Mary Mapes. It follows the true story of Mapes (played by Cate Blanchett), an award-winning CBS News journalist and Dan Rather’s producer, who broke the Abu-Ghraib prison abuse story.
The film also stars Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss and Dennis Quaid. It is written and directed by James Vanderbilt.
The film will hit select theaters on Oct. 16.
