Robert De Niro has thrown many an insult at President Donald Trump since he took office (and even before then) but he truly outdid himself on Tuesday night.
While introducing Best Actress winner Meryl Streep at the National Board of Review awards gala, De Niro used his time at the podium as a way to get a few more F-bomb-laden jabs in at the man he called “our baby-in-chief.”
“It was fascinating to watch ‘The Post,’” De Niro said of the new Steven Spielberg directed-film for which Streep had won her award. “That story took place nearly 50 years ago, but there are many parallels today, obviously.”
De Niro drew connections between the political climate in the movie and the way Trump’s administration is running America. “This f—ing idiot is the president,” he said. “It’s ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’: The guy is a f—ing fool.”
The two-time Oscar winner also tossed some more pointed insults at “our baby-in-chief” and “the jerkoff-in-chief,” who “has put the press under siege.”
In the film, Streep plays Katharine Graham, the Washington Post publisher who ran the paper during its struggle over whether or not to publish the Pentagon Papers, in defiance of the Nixon administration. The film also won the National Board of Review’s best picture and best actor (Tom Hanks).
“The movie gave us glimpses of President Nixon as delusional, narcissistic, petty, vindictive, nasty, and bats-t f–ing crazy,” De Niro added. “Ah, the good old days.”
