“Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart will portray the younger version of Betty Cooper’s mom Alice, played by Mädchen Amick in the present day, in the upcoming flashback episode in Season 3. The episode, titled “The Midnight Club,” is an homage to the movie “The Breakfast Club” — but Reinhart looked at a different pop culture phenomenon of yore for her look as young Alice.

Amick starred in the original “Twin Peaks” as Shelly Johnson, and the actress said that she researched photos of the 1990 cult hit for inspiration.

“I do my own makeup on the show this season, and I was definitely looking at a lot of “Twin Peaks” photo references to make sure that I got the eyebrows right,” she continued. “The Mac lip pencil Spice I use, she used back in the day,” Reinhart said in a recent interview with Vulture. “So, yeah, I did my research!”

And that research has paid off already — she’s already gotten Amick’s seal of approval. “When she first saw me in the hair and makeup, she looked at me, she studied my face for a second, and she went, ‘Yep.’ And that was it,” Reinhart said.

“I work with Mädchen all the time. I know her mannerisms, I know the way that she works,” she continued. “Young Alice is so different from older Alice, so I didn’t have the pressure of having to be exactly like the same person, because she’s so different as a younger Serpent.”

“The Midnight Club” episode will air in November, and will feature the Riverdale High students as teenage versions of their parents. Back in the day, Alice was a Serpent, so maybe we’ll see a bit of Dark Betty in the portrayal of her mom’s bad girl persona.

“Riverdale” Season 3 premieres on The CW on Oct.10 at 8/7c.
