We’re only four episodes deep into Season 2 of “Riverdale” and already things are getting heavier than they were in the first season — if that’s even possible. TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell spoke to star Skeet Ulrich about what new drama is coming at viewers this season, particularly for his character FP Jones and his son Jughead (Cole Sprouse).
“I think we’re heading to a war with the Northside — the Southside and the Northside,” Ulrich told TheWrap. “There is a lot to come in terms of the rising of the Serpents, and how that happens I can’t really tell you.” Ulrich confessed he does know where things are going with the gang — even if he won’t tell us.
But does he think Jughead is going to get embroiled in the battle, despite his flourishing relationship with the good-natured Betty (Lili Reinhart)? “I think that’s the interesting dichotomy of his character,” Ulrich said. “Betty sort of represents and brings out this ephemeral goodness in him and he also has his bloodline, which is this darkness and nefarious activities, and I think that’s the tear for his character. And certainly he’s got a lot of that coming.”
Ulrich says he thinks the last thing FP wants is for his son to follow in his footsteps. “He’s pretty upset about it,” Ulrich said of Jughead flirting with being part of the Serpents. “It’s something he does not want to happen. You know, it’s an interesting look at how kids grow up and ultimately you have the pass the mantel of manhood onto your children, which you’re reluctant to do. At some point, FP is gonna face that.”
