‘The Ring’ Star Daveigh Chase Set for Serial Killer Thriller ‘American Romance’

The “Big Love” and “Donnie Darko” actress has signed with management company Traverse Media

“The Ring” star Daveigh Chase has signed on to star in the serial killer thriller “American Romance,” which is a co-production between Hub Media and Traverse Media, the latter of which recently signed the actress to its management division, TheWrap has learned.

Zackary Adler (“I’m Reed Fish”) is directing the indie movie, which is the first feature for Hub partners Gary Sugarman and Crawford Anderson-Dillon.

“American Romance” reunites Chase with her “Donnie Darko” co-star James Duval, and the cast also includes Nolan Gerard Funk (“The Canyons”), Mark Boone Junior (“Memento”) and John Savage (“The Deer Hunter”).

“Daveigh brings such a truthfulness to her performance that really is mesmerizing and we’re excited to be working with her,” said Jeremy Loethen, who heads up Traverse’s management division.

“American Romance” is the fourth feature film that Traverse has been involved with since its inception less than one year ago. Others include the Austin Film Festival selection “Cavemen” starring Skylar Astin and Camilla Belle, “Parts Per Billion” starring Teresa Palmer and Penn Badgley and Adler’s “Casual Encounters,” which stars Taran Killam and Brooklyn Decker.

Hub’s focus until now has been on communications and producing digital media for major brands.

Chase, who played Rhonda Volmer on HBO’s “Big Love,” is best known for playing the creepy villain Samara in “The Ring.” She recently starred in the “Donnie Darko” spinoff “S. Darko” and Nick Cassavetes’ indie drama “Yellow.”
