Ricky Gervais has one thing in common with the detractors — and there are more than a few of them — who took him to task for his largely de-fanged Golden Globes hosting gig Sunday night.
He, like they, is glad that the whole thing is in the past now.

The "Life's Too Short" funnyman — who pulled his punches during the awards ceremony, at least compared to last year's gasp-inducing performance — offered post-game analysis on his blog, and the general tone of his missive amounts to a big, fat sigh of relief.

"Phew! Thank fuck that's over," Gervais' post begins.
Not to say that he didn't enjoy the experience — in fact, of the three Golden Globes that he's hosted, Gervais says that he was most satisfied with Sunday's show.

"I had a blast actually," Gervais offers. "It was by far my favorite of the three hosting stints."
And regardless of what the audience at home — not to mention in the Twitterverse — might have had to say about his efforts, Gervais opines that the assembled celebrities at the Beverly Hilton were more attuned to his sensibilities than last year.
"The crowd were great this year too," Gervais enthused. "I think they finally worked out that my gags only seemed rude and nasty but were actually not too scary at all. Or they were just drunker."
Despite his satisfaction with Sunday night's events, Gervais is holding firm in his assertion that he will take to the podium no more for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
"I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though," Gervais vows. "It's like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do."
As for what's next, Gervais is off to New York "to chill out a bit" and "relax."
Judging by the photo Gervais published with the post — of him lounging in a chair with a contented smile on his face, with a table full of champagne in front of him — he might have gotten a jump on that goal.
It's probably best to set a little of that bubbly aside, Ricky; you might need it when it comes time to dive into the reviews.
