Don’t go breaking our hearts! Richard Madden says speculation that he will be the next James Bond is “just talk.”
At Friday morning’s Cannes press conference to promote the Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” in which Madden next stars, a reporter asked Madden about Bond, adding, “I only bring this up because you wore the signature white tuxedo and pulled it off very well, last night — it’s a done deal, isn’t it?”
“It’s very flattering to be involved in that conversation at all but it’s all just talk and I’m sure next week it’ll be someone different,” Madden responded.
Speculation that the “Game of Thrones” actor would take over the role of 007 started last October, according to Slash Film. Madden has gone on the record before to shut down the reports — in April, he said that while it is a “flattering rumor,” he wouldn’t be taking on the role.
TheWrap exclusively reported recently that Madden was in talks to join Marvel’s “The Eternals.” Other than that, he’s currently shooting Sam Mendes’ World War One drama “1917.” He recently played the lead role in BBC’s thriller series “Bodyguard,” which streamed on Netflix in the U.S.
As for Bond, Daniel Craig is reprising the role in the upcoming “Bond 25.” Cary Joji Fukunaga is directing the film that also stars Rami Malek, Billy Magnussen and Ana de Armas. It will be released on April 8, 2020.
