‘Revenge’: Emily Finally Sees David Clarke Is Alive (Video)

Everything an angry daughter ever wanted for her father is happening, so why isn’t she happy?

Spoiler alert: Do not read on if you haven’t watched Sunday’s episode, “Meteor,” and don’t want to be spoiled.

ABC’s “Revenge” wasted very little time for its biggest scene ever to air on Sunday’s episode. Not even halfway through the one-hour program, Emily (Emily VanCamp) set eyes on her father, David Clarke (James Tupper), alive.

Having been caught shoplifting, David was arrested. But, as soon as Officer Ben (Brian Hallisay) saw that he resembled the description Emily gave him of the man who broke into Grayson Manor with the intent to kill her, Ben rushed David into a lineup to see if she could identify him.

Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler), who organized the lineup and recognized David, tried to warn Emily, but Ben shut him up. So, she went into the room and was taken aback at what she saw. There he was, the man whose death she had been trying to avenge for more than three years, in the flesh. She didn’t even try to hold back the tears. In the end, she didn’t identify anyone in the lineup.

We learn later that David engineered his arrest, so that he could finally come out publicly as alive. He concocted a story of being imprisoned by Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny) for 10 years, having just escaped the torturous ordeal (with self-inflicted chain whip marks on his back to prove it). Knowing Conrad had already confessed to framing him and that he had already killed Conrad, David feigned fear of what the Grayson patriarch would do to him now that he knows he’s back and then he faked relief when the FBI officer told him Conrad was killed six months ago.

During  his first statement to press, he is referred to by the media as a hero and a sign of hope while flanked by his other daughter, Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) while Emily looked on helplessly.

What does this mean for Emily? It’s unclear. She’s in a hurry to speak with her father, but knows that Victoria will make that difficult. The ray of hope for Emily stands with David, who may have recognized her when he broke in to kill her and already has a feeling that Victoria has something up her sleeve.

Watch the moment in which Emily sees her father is alive with her own eyes above.

“Revenge” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
