Report: Jennifer Lopez Working on New Singing Show With ‘American Idol’ Producer

J.Lo is said to be pitching a new series with her current boss, leaving the future of her ‘Idol’ judging gig in question

Is Jennifer Lopez planning to branch out from the “American Idol” judges’ panel, and into a show of her own?

According to EW.com, the newly-installed “Idol” judge and her husband, singer Marc Anthony, are teaming up with “Idol” producer Simon Fuller through his company XIX Entertainment to pitch a singing show, tentatively titled “Que Viva,” to networks. The series would see Lopez and Anthony touring Latin America to unearth the hottest vocal talent in the area.

Should the series get the green light, it’s uncertain how it would affect Lopez’s tenure on “Idol,” which began in January. The “Jenny From the Block” singer is currently signed on for the series through the end of the current season though, with ratings for the series continuing to dominate the competition, it’s likely that the “Idol” producers will want her to re-up. And scouring Latin America for its finest singers is, presumably, a time-consuming experience. (Reps for Lopez, Fuller and XIX Entertainment did not immediately reply to TheWrap's request for comment.)

Of course, “Idol” judges moonlighting is nothing new. Departed judge Simon Cowell managed to hop the pond to judge the British version of “The X Factor,” until abandoning both positions to launch the American version of “X Factor.” And Randy Jackson manages to high-step it between “Idol” and his MTV gig, “America’s Best Dance Crew.”

But Lopez also has ongoing careers as a recording artist (Lopez’s latest album “Love?” will comes out on May 3) and an actress (though her most recent movie, “The Back Up Plan,” came out a year ago, and she doesn’t appear to have any pending big-screen projects). That, combined with various other entrepreneurial efforts, such as her Glow perfume line — not to mention 2-year-old twins — could leave Lopez spread pretty thin if she were to take on another time-consuming project.

After all, contrary to popular belief, there might not always be room for J.Lo.
