Bruce Springsteen's Big Man is apparently doing better after suffering a stroke in his Florida home over the weekend.
Clarence Clemons, 69, who recently collaborated with Lady Gaga on her latest album, was initially reported to be in serious condition, but several outlets now report that he is showing signs of improvement. A close friend of the musician told E Street Band fan site Backstreets, "His vital signs are improving. He's responsive." Although Clemons was initially paralyzed on the left side, according to the source he has begun squeezing with his left hand.
"This is the best news we've heard since [the stroke] happened — it's nothing short of miraculous," the friend told the site. "The next five days will still be critical. But he's a fighter."
Fox News has confirmed that Clemons, affectionately known as "The Big Man" among Springsteen aficionados, is showing signs of recovery.
Clemons has experienced health issues of late, including two recent back surgeries, the musician told Rolling Stone in February. He had also been scheduled to perform at last week's Game 2 of the NBA Finals, but pulled out due to a hand injury.
Clemons did, however, collaborate with Gaga recenty, playing saxophone on "Hair" and "The Edge of Glory" on "Born This Way." On Monday, Gaga fired up her Twitter account to rally her legions of fans to show their support for the musician.
"Little monsters, my very close friend +musician on The Edge of Glory, Clarence Clemons is very sick," the singer wrote. "Can we all make some get well videos?"
Clemons also performed with Lady Gaga at the "American Idol" season finale this spring, lending his talents to "Edge of Glory." Watch their performance in the video below.
