Rep. Joe Kennedy III offered an explanation on Wednesday to speculation that he drooled while giving a speech in response to Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
During an interview on “Good Morning America” with George Stephanopoulos, Kennedy said the suspected drooling all came down to ChapStick.
“You couldn’t completely escape the curse of the State of the Union response, Twitter had a field day with your shiny lips. So did you bring your chapstick this morning,” asked Stephanopoulos.
“Oddly enough, decided to go a little bit light on the chapstick this morning,” Kennedy responded. “More on the coffee, light on the ChapStick which is probably a wise choice.”
Many Democrats on Twitter praised Kennedy on Tuesday for a State of the Union response that was inclusive and impassioned. Republicans said he was literally drooling, which was similar to Marco Rubio’s 2013 SOTU response. The Florida Republican’s dry-mouth moment was mostly forgotten before the Kennedy incident.
