Reid Scott Tries to Recall the Worst Thing Dan Egan Did on ‘Veep’: ‘Where Do I Start?’ (Video)

“I rather like the idea that he’s learned nothing,” Scott tells TheWrap

Dan Egan has done some pretty awful stuff during the first six seasons of HBO’s “Veep.”

In fact, he’s done so many bad things, that Reid Scott, who plays the character, had a tough time recalling which one was the worst, when asked by TheWrap.

“Where do I start?” Scott asked.

Scott continued: “There’s some stuff that happens this season that is definitely, definitely the worst thing that Dan’s ever done. But prior to that, maybe getting Ms. McCabe fired from her own show on CBS.”

At the end of Season 6, Amy Brookheimer (Anna Chlumsky) reveals to Dan that she’s pregnant with his child after a one-night stand. In typical Dan fashion, he acts very glib about the whole thing, assuming she’ll just get an abortion and be done with it. And in the third episode of Season 7 this past Sunday, Amy did just that.

But not without Dan basically celebrating his not-fatherhood, even referring to himself as the “proud father to not be.” Scott said that the fact that Amy even considering having the baby at all threw Dan off. “He’s very self-aware that he would be an absolutely horrible parent,” the actor said.

“Veep” is in the middle of its farewell run, alongside another awards darling for HBO,  “Game of Thrones.” That’s given Dan a lot of time to grow as a character, or if you ask Scott, stay exactly the same.

“I don’t know that he’s evolved much. Evolution, at least emotional and intellectual evolution, is sort of passing Dan by,” Scott said. “I rather like the idea that he’s learned nothing, except for more tricks along the way.”

“Veep” airs Sundays on HBO at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT
