Red Lobster is grateful for Beyoncé’s second shoutout since 2016 — but this time the restaurant chain opted to hold the Cheddar Bey Biscuits.
In 2016, Beyoncé’s single “Formation” featured the deliciously raunchy line, “When he f— me good I take his a– to Red Lobster, ’cause I slay.”
And slay she did. “Red Lobster” trended on Twitter for the first time ever, scoring 42,000 mentions in an hour, according to CNN. The company also reportedly enjoyed a 33 percent boost in sales.
But Red Lobster’s attempt to play along fell flat with some fans online.
“‘Cheddar Bey Biscuits’ has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?” the company tweeted.
A BuzzFeed headline fired back: “Red Lobster Finally Responded To The Beyoncé Lyric And It Was Pretty Awful.”
“Yall had hours and this is what yall come up with?” one Twitter user responded. Another said, “Bey hyped y’all up and you missed the opportunity.”
Red Lobster admitted its error.
“You try to bake Cheddar Bay Biscuits and tweet at the same time! #harderthanitlooks #Formation,” the company tweeted in response. The company also tweeted, “Our Bad. We’re really busy for some reason #ThanksB.”
All of which brings us to Thursday’s GLAAD Media Awards, where Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z were honored for their support for the LGBTQ community.
“How you identify and see yourself is your human right, who you make love to and take that a– to Red Lobster is your human right,” Beyoncé said.
This time, Red Lobster played it safe.
“We appreciate Beyoncé sharing her story with fans last night, and we love that her story includes Red Lobster,” a spokesperson for the company told TheWrap Friday.
No biscuits, no puns, nothing. Just… straightforward appreciation.
Put away your claws.
