Rebecca Hall has joined Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in the cast “Transcendence,” the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, Alcon Entertainment announced on Monday.
Hall, who played Ben Affleck’s love interest in “The Town,” worked with Pfister on Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige." Pfister has been Nolan's cinematographer on every film since "Memento" and will try his hand at directing with this sci-fi thriller.
Alcon Entertainment is financing and producing the project, which will begin principal photography in Los Angeles this April. Warner Bros, which will distribute the film, has already set an April 25, 2014, release date.
Jack Paglen wrote the script, which calls for Depp to play a scientist whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer. The filmmakers have endeavored to cloak all plot details in a cloud of secrecy, through TheWrap did obtain a script summary in December.
Straight Up Films's Marisa Polvino, Annie Marter and Kate Cohen will produce the film with David Valdes and Alcon Entertainment's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Nolan, whose last film was "The Dark Knight Rises" will executive produce with his wife, Emma Thomas, and trusted collaborator Aaron Ryder.
The WME-repped Hall last starred in "Lay the Favorite" and will next appear in "Iron Man 3."
