The season finale of "The Voice" improved on its spring finale to hit a season high and drive NBC to a ratings win Tuesday night, according to preliminary numbers.
NBC grabbed first place in the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers with a 4.0 rating/11 share and second in total viewers with 12 million. Following a "Voice" repeat at 8 p.m., the season finale of the singing competition rose 11 percent from its spring finale for a 4.9/13 — a record for finales of the show, and a season high — while attracting 14 million total viewers.
CBS drew second place in ratings and first in total viewers with a 2.6/7 and 14.9 million. Its primetime slate improved across the board, starting with "NCIS" at 8, which bounced back from last week's season low, growing 18 percent for a 3.3/10 and grabbing the night's largest total viewership with 19.4 million. "NCIS: LA" grew 12 percent for a 2.9/8 and took 15.4 million total viewers, while "Vegas" at 10 inched up to a 1.6/4 and had 9.8 million total viewers.
Univision took third place in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 1.6/4 and 3.8 million.
ABC came in fourth in ratings and third in total viewers with a 1.4/4 and 4.2 million. After a repeat of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at 8, "Happy Endings" the following hour grew slightly for a 1.3/4 with 5.8 million. "Don't Trust the B—- in Apt. 23" improved 10 percent for a 1.1/3 and had 2.6 million total viewers, while "Private Practice" at 10 ran even for a 1.2/3 and took 3.8 million total viewers.
Fox, which ran repeats Tuesday night, took fifth place in ratings and total viewers with a 0.8/2 and 1.9 million.
