ABC had a predictable win with “Modern Family” Wednesday night, but suffered declines with its new series “Revenge” and “Suburgatory, while Fox took an overall victory on the strength of “The X Factor,” according to preliminary numbers.
ABC’s night began with “The Middle” at 8, which drew a 2.9 rating/9 share in the adults 18-49 demographic and 9.1 million total viewers. The network’s new comedy “Suburgatory” at 8:30 took a 10 percent drop compared to last week, yielding its lowest results in the demo so far with a 2.8/8 and 8.1 million total viewers.
“Modern Family” at 9 retained its ratings reign, landing the night’s top numbers in the demo with a 5.5/14 in the demo and 12.8 million total viewers (which also made it the night’s most-watched program). “Happy Endings” at 9:30 drew a 3.2/8 in the demo with 7.1 million total viewers, while another new offering from the network, “Revenge,” ended the night with a 13 percent drop compared to last week, pulling a 2.6/7 in the demo and 7.9 million total viewers.
At Fox, “The X Factor” — which filled the network’s primetime slate — drew even with last week for a 3.8/10 in the demo and 11.1 million total viewers, which gave it the night’s best average among adults 18-49.
CBS aired “Survivor” at 8, which received a 3.3/9 in the demo and 11.5 million total viewers, with “Criminal Minds” the following hour climbed 9 percent for a 3.7/9 and 12.5 million total viewers. The night closed with “CSI,” which received a 2.6/7 and 10.5 million total viewers. Overall, CBS was the night’s most-watched network, with an average 11.5 million total viewers.
NBC had its ups and downs, with “Up All Night” improving slightly at 8 with a 1.9/5 in the demo and 4.8 million total viewers, and “Harry’s Law” at 9 — following an “Up All Night” repeat — declined 15 percent for a 1.1/3 in the demo and 7.1 million total viewers, matching the series low it reached two weeks ago, and “Law & Order: SVU” matching last week’s series low with a 1.9/5 in the demo and 7.2 million total viewers.
