NBC won a slow Wednesday on the strength of "America's Got Talent," and also led in coverage of the Republican National Convention, according to preliminary numbers.
NBC was first in ratings in the 18-49 demo with a 1.7 rating/5 share and in total viewers with 6.5 million. After an "America's Got Talent" rerun at 8 p.m., a new episode at 9 drew a 2.5/7 and 9.1 million total viewers. Offering an original episode before the RNC coverage proved helpful: NBC's convention coverage at 10 scored a 1.3/4 rating and 4.5 million total viewers, more than ABC or CBS's coverage. Both led into the RNC coverage with repeats.
Fox, airing "So You Think You Can Dance" from 8 to 10, was the second-highest-rated network in the demo with a 1.6/5 and was third in total viewers with 4.3 million.
Univision was third in ratings with a 1.5/4 and fourth in total viewers with 3.7 million.
CBS was fourth in ratings with a 1.4/4 and second in total viewers with 5 million. "Big Brother" at 9 scored a 2.3/7 and 6.7 million total viewers. It was followed by a "Criminal Minds" repeat at 9. At 10, the network's RNC coverage scored a .6/2 and 2.8 million total viewers.
ABC, which ran only repeats Wednesday except for the RNC, was fifth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.0/3 and 3.4 million. Its RNC coverage received a .7/2 rating and 2.6 million total viewers.
The CW was sixth in ratings and total viewers with a .4/1 and 1.1 million. Its musical-chairs competition "Oh Sit" at 8 had a .4/1 and 1.3 million total viewers.
