The finale of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars" gave the series its highest numbers of the season, helping to push the network to a ratings win Tuesday night, according to preliminary numbers.
ABC grabbed a narrow first place in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic with a 2.8 rating/7 share and second place in total viewers with 13.9 million.
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at 8 was down slightly from last year's airing, drawing a 2.4/7 with 8.4 million total viewers, while "Shrek the Halls" at 8:30 also dropped modestly from last year, grabbing a 2.5/7 with 8.4 million total viewers.
The "Dancing With the Stars" season finale at 9 had a 3.0/8 and 16.5 million total viewers. (While the numbers represent a season high for the show, Tuesday night's season finale was down 27 percent in the demo from last fall's "Dancing With the Stars" season capper.)
CBS took second place in ratings and first in total viewers with a 2.7/7 and 14.4 million. "NCIS" at 8 jumped 17 percent from last week, taking a 3.5/10 and pulling 19.6 million total viewers, making it the night's most-watched program. "NCIS: LA" the following hour ticked up to a 2.9/7 and drew 14.3 million total viewers, while "Vegas" at 10 dropped 11 percent from last week, tying its series low of 1.6/4, and received 9.4 million total viewers.
NBC grabbed third in ratings and total viewers with a 2.5/7 and 7 million. The network's primetime slate grew across the board, starting with "The Voice" at 8, which climbed 12 percent to a 3.8/10 — the night's highest individual rating — with 11.4 million total viewers. "Go On" the following hour jumped 19 percent to a 2.5/6 and had 6.3 million total viewers, while "The New Normal" at 9:30 grew 13 percent for a 1.7/4 and took 4 million total viewers. "Parenthood" at 10 inched up from last week, taking a 1.8/5 and attracting 4.4 million total viewers.
Fox came in fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.7/5 and 3.4 million. Despite the last-place showing, the network's programs improved across the board. "Raising Hope" at 8 grew 13 percent to a 1.7/5 and had 3.9 million total viewers, while "Ben & Kate" at 8:30 jumped 27 percent for a 1.4/4 with 2.9 million total viewers.
"New Girl" at 9 climbed 15 percent from last week, taking a 2.3/6 with 4.2 million total viewers, while "The Mindy Project" at 9:30 was also up 15 percent for a 1.5/4 and had 3 million total viewers.
